As a professional proofreader, and member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading I am trained to review all types of content for errors. Proofreading is not just about spelling and grammar mistakes, it can also include reviewing layout, word selection, consistency of style, clarity of content and the cross-checking of references and footnotes, giving you confidence that your content is properly prepared for publication.
I will review and mark-up documents in whichever way suits your needs, these include:
If you are unsure of the best option for you please feel free to contact me to discuss.
Hi, I'm Claire Bryden, thank you for visiting my site.
Until the summer of 2017 I was an Executive Assistant at a global financial services company based in the City of London; in July of that year my husband and I embarked on a deferred gap year, spending a year travelling the world and enjoying many incredible experiences whilst visiting the USA, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Whilst working I took an Open University degree course, gaining a BSC in Psychology. I then studied part time for an MSc in Occupational Psychology graduating from Birkbeck College, University of London, in 2013. I am a member of the British Psychological Society.
On returning from my travels I returned to my previous company, providing temporary cover, until I left in 2020 and retrained as a proofreader with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
I look forward to working with you.
Having written a thesis I know how easy it is to become so involved in the content that spelling and grammar are no longer a priority, especially when approaching a deadline. A detailed read-through by fresh eyes can check pagination, captions for graphs, illustrations and tables, and the accuracy, completeness and standardisation of references and footnotes, so that you can have confidence that your findings have been presented perfectly.
Having put your heart and soul into finally writing that novel, and having read it over and over again, you may miss errors that have crept in during the editing process, or, because you know what it should say, you don't register small mistakes, even possible inconsistencies in the plot. Do you need that extra bit of confidence that, when your work is available for all to see, it is faultless?
However fluent you are in a foreign language there may be small indiosyncrasies that can be missed in the process of writing your essays or thesis, or when completing application forms. As well as providing an overall review of your document, a proofreader will check that your word choice is the most appropriate and the language is clear and easy to read, giving you confidence in your final submission.
We all know how important it is that customers receive clear, complete and accurate communications - especially if it is the first interaction they have with your company. From a business card to a full-blown prospectus, it is vital that your customers, or potential investors, receive the optimal experience of your brand. In order to help you avoid expensive mistakes a proofreader will check your material before it goes to print and you will be able to distribute your literature with confidence.
It is hard to overestimate the importance of an online presence and, because your website will be instantly viewable, it means that you want to be confident that your content is accurate, consistent and fit for purpose. A proofreader can view the website from a customer's perspective, testing that the links, searches and forms all work, so that potential customers have confidence to choose you.
Anyone who is producing material that they are putting forward for consideration, whether it is by customers, tutors, readers, editors or the general public, should seriously think about having their work reviewed by a professional proofreader.
A final check from a fresh perspective will pick up those small errors that may have been missed, helping you to create a confident, polished and professional product. It may not be something you have considered before, but it will be worth it.
I prefer to price each project individually, this is because you and your project will be unique and therefore it is impractical to use a 'one price fits all' approach. Once you have contacted me we can arrange to discuss your requirements and then I will be able to provide you with a quote. To help me do this I will need some information about the scale of the project, the suggested timeline and, if possible, a sample of the document so that I can get an idea of the amount of work involved.
I look forward to speaking to you.
Every project is unique. Do you have a deadline, or a specific formatting for your final copy?
Send me a message with any questions or concerns, and I'll get back to you with answers as soon as I can.
